Turin, 16 March (LaPresse) – "This was the first major tournament since the Australian Open; obviously, it’s been a great week. We tried to arrive here very early. I hadn’t won here before, so I wanted to prepare for it in the best possible way, as professionally as possible. This achievement means a lot to me. Now I have a couple of days to relax; there isn’t much time between here and Miami, which is an equally important tournament. I’ll try to play the best tennis possible there too, and then we’ll see how it goes.” So said Jannik Sinner at a press conference following his triumph at Indian Wells, his first title of the season. In the final, the Italian defeated Daniil Medvedev in two tie-breaks; Medvedev had knocked out Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals and returned to the Top 10 thanks to this result. “I think he’s playing great tennis. He was very confident, he’s already won a couple of titles this year and, coming here, he played really well. We mustn’t forget that he’s a Grand Slam champion, and that didn’t happen by chance. He served very well and I struggled to return, especially against his second serve,” analysed Sinner. “I believe tennis needs him. He has a unique style of play; he has different approaches when serving and when returning. Seeing him return to this level is fantastic.”
