Turin, 26 Apr. (LaPresse) – Alex Schwazer is back in the spotlight with an impressive time in the race walk marathon. The South Tyrolean finished in 3h01:55 on the streets of Kelsterbach, Germany, and crossed the line a clear winner in the race, which counted towards the German championships in the discipline. A remarkable result over the 42.195-kilometre distance, introduced this year into the international calendar: the third-fastest time in the world this season, behind those set by the Japanese athletes Motofumi Suwa (2h58:21) and Hiroto Jusho (2h59:31) on 15 March in Nomi, making him the current European leader, ahead of the 3h03:45 achieved by the Hungarian Bence Venyercsan in Dudince. The 41-year-old, who competes for Atletica San Biagio and is the Olympic 50 km champion from the 2008 Beijing Games, also set a new national best, beating Andrea Agrusti’s 3h03:55 set on 25 October in Zittau, whilst the Italian record will be officially recognised at the end of the season.
