Rome, 5 May (LaPresse) – Toni Nadal, the Spanish tennis coach, uncle and former coach of Rafael Nadal, has revived the idea of reducing racket sizes to transform modern tennis and make it more appealing. “One measure I would propose to change tennis would be to play with a smaller racket. The tennis authorities should do something to change the game. Sometimes it’s simply not very appealing. Many people today won’t agree, but the real problem is that the ball is getting faster and faster,” he said in an interview reported by Marca. According to Toni Nadal, injuries stem not so much from the number of matches, but from the intensity and force of the shots. “Today, it’s often simply a contest to see who can hit the ball the hardest. With such rapid movements – accelerating to hit the ball, braking and repeating – it’s easy for the body to reach its limits and get injured. I think we should try to slow the pace of the game down a bit,” he explained.
