Milan, 25 May (LaPresse) – “International news, and unfortunately national news too, are full of horrifying scenes where there is contempt for life and a complete lack of respect.” These were the words of the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with the Roma Club Jerusalem at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, regarding the incidents that took place yesterday in Turin during the derby. For the minister, what unfolded yesterday ‘is not a chapter in sport, because regardless of whether anyone thinks they are championing a sporting cause, I believe that what we are seeing is a clash between hooligans who have nothing to do with football’. "I try to repeat this consistently, not because I do not want to take responsibility as part of the sporting system, but because there is a distinction in behaviour, in language, in the way people interact. Ordinary, decent people of all ages are inside a stadium, supporting their team. The hooligans clash in the streets, not only showing disrespect but also attacking the police. And for us, this is irreconcilable with sport,” concluded Abodi.
