Milan, 15 June (LaPresse) – An impressive Italy secured their third victory in the Volleyball Nations League and are currently fourth in the overall standings. At The Arena at TD Place, in the final match of Pool 1, the Azzurri overcame the United States at the end of a long and spectacular match 3-2 (25-18, 15-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-10). Luca Porro was the top scorer for the Italians with 24 points, 68% in attack, 2 blocks and 3 aces. Following yesterday’s match against Turkey, the Italian national team put in another strong performance against a top-class side. Italy claimed victory in this crucial match, producing a contest that entertained the crowd in Ottawa this evening. Ferdinando De Giorgi’s Azzurri therefore return home from the first week of the VNL with a record of three wins (Germany, Turkey and the United States) and just one defeat, which came in their opening match against Giani’s France. Tonight’s victory is the Azzurri’s 52nd win in 93 matches played against the Stars and Stripes. The national team will return to Italy on a flight departing from Montreal at 7pm local time on Monday 15 June (midnight in Italy), arriving at Rome Fiumicino Airport.
