Milan, Jan 16 (LaPresse) – A Hamas official, Izzat al-Risheq, in a post on Telegram relayed by Al-Jazeera confirmed his commitment to respecting the ceasefire agreement after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office accused the Palestinian group of backtracking on some elements of the agreement to obtain ‘last-minute concessions’. Hamas is ‘committed to the ceasefire agreement’ in Gaza, as outlined by mediators Qatar and the US, al-Risheq said. Al Jazeera underlines the fact that Netanyahu faced great internal pressure to bring the hostages home but that his far-right coalition partners threatened to bring down the government if he made too many concessions. Netanyahu's office said that ‘the Israeli Cabinet will not meet’ to approve the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release agreement ‘until the mediators inform Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement’.
