Brussels, Feb 3 (LaPresse) – The Flemish conservative Bart De Wever is the new Prime Minister of Belgium. Together with his ministers, he was sworn in before King Philippe. The Flemish nationalist will now meet with his predecessor, Alexander De Croo, for the handover of power. De Wever will immediately represent Belgium at the informal retreat of European leaders on defense at Egmont Palace. His party, N-VA (New Flemish Alliance), is part of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group, the same political group as Fratelli d’Italia. He is the third prime minister from this political family, following Giorgia Meloni in Italy and Petr Fiala in the Czech Republic. After more than eight months of negotiations, Belgium has finally managed to form a government by reaching an agreement within the so-called Arizona coalition, which brings together various parties: liberals, Flemish socialists, Christian democrats, and Flemish nationalists.
