Milan, 7 Feb. (LaPresse) – The governing party in Greenland, Siumut, has announced that if it is re-elected in the elections scheduled for 11 March, it will accelerate the process of independence from Denmark by activating Article 21 of the Greenland Self-Government Act to negotiate the terms of future relations and to call a referendum on independence. This was reported in the Guardian. The party leader, Erik Jensen, has admitted in several interviews that the words of the US president Donald Trump have indirectly contributed to this decision, and the political spokesperson for Siumut, Doris Jakobsen Jensen, has gone further criticising the Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, for her ‘solo race’ in Europe in response to Trump's words, ignoring the will of Greenland.
