Berlin (Germany), 13 Feb (LaPresse/AP) – Germany's centre-left Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the car attack on the crowd in Munich as ‘truly terrible’. Scholz added that he has already done much to reduce irregular immigration and that the opposition's plans are incompatible with German and EU laws, after it became known that the 24-year-old man detained for the attack is an Afghan refugee. ‘Anyone who commits crimes in Germany will not only be punished severely and have to go to prison, but must expect not to be allowed to continue his stay in Germany. And this also applies to countries where it is very difficult to send people back,’ he added, emphasising that his government had deported convicted criminals to Afghanistan on a flight in August and is working on doing so again. ‘And not just once, but all the time,’ he assured.
