Milan, 1 Mar. (LaPresse/AP) – On the first Saturday after the final hearing of the impeachment trial of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, which took place on Tuesday, his supporters and opponents took to the streets of the capital Seoul. The South Korean leader, currently suspended from office and on trial for imposing martial law in December 2024, defended his decree before the Constitutional Court, describing it as an attempt to inform the public of the danger of a parliament controlled by the opposition. Yoon claims that the liberal opposition, with its majority in Parliament, has undermined the government's budget and pushed for the impeachment of senior officials. The Court is expected to hand down its ruling by mid-March. The president is currently in custody and faces the death penalty or life imprisonment.
