Jerusalem, 24 Mar. (LaPresse/AP) – Hamdan Ballal, one of the Palestinian co-directors of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘No Other Land’, was beaten and then arrested after clashes in the Palestinian village of Susiya, in the Masafer Yatta area, which was attacked by dozens of settlers. According to activists from the Centre for Jewish Nonviolence, Ballal was hit on the head during the clashes and, while he was being treated in the ambulance, Israeli soldiers arrested him and another Palestinian man. ‘We don't know where Hamdan is and why he was taken away blindfolded’, said 28-year-old Josh Kimelman, who was present at the scene. A group of 10-20 masked settlers also attacked him and other Jewish activists with stones and sticks, breaking the windows of their cars and slashing the tyres. At the moment the Israeli army has stated that it is investigating the incident but has not made any official statements.
