Bangkok (Thailand), 28th Mar. (LaPresse) – The first official toll of the earthquake of magnitude 7.7 with its epicentre near Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar, is at least 144 victims and 730 injured. This was stated by the head of the military junta, General Min Aung Hlaing, in a televised speech. ‘The death and injury toll is expected to rise,’ he said. Photos from the capital Naypyidaw show several buildings used to house civil servants destroyed by the earthquake and rescue teams extracting victims from the rubble.
