(LaPresse) – “The United States is in Nato”, ’the United States is more active in Nato than ever, and some of this hysteria and hyperbole that I see in the global media and in some national media in the United States about Nato is unjustified. The President of the United States, Trump, has made it clear that he supports NATO’ and “we will remain in NATO, he has made that clear”. This was stated by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. US President Donald Trump ‘is not against NATO, he is against a NATO that does not have the capabilities it needs to fulfil the obligations that the Treaty imposes on each and every member state’, continues Rubio, who, with regard to the 5% defence spending targets requested by the US, clarifies: ‘No one expects that we can get there in a year or two, but the path must be real. This is a hard truth, but it is a fundamental truth that must be told now so that we can build the kind of NATO that has the capacity to defend the territories of our nation states and discourage any action that would be aggressive against any of us.’
