Milan, 6 Apr (LaPresse) – EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. ‘I shared my concern about the impact of US tariffs on the global economy,’ von der Leyen reported. According to the EU executive, von der Leyen ‘expressed his deep concern about the tariffs announced by President Trump on 2 April and the damage they represent for all countries’ and ‘reiterated the EU's commitment to engage in negotiations with the United States, while making clear that the EU stands ready to defend its interests through proportionate countermeasures, if necessary’. ‘At the same time,’ stressed the EU Commission in a note, von der Leyen ’underlined his determination to work with partners to respond to this new reality for the global economy, recognising that each trading partner will act according to its own priorities.’
