Beijing, April 8 (LaPresse/AP) – China has declared that it "will fight to the end" and will take countermeasures against the United States to safeguard its interests after President Donald Trump threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports. The Ministry of Commerce stated that U.S. tariffs are baseless and bullying. China has promised retaliatory tariffs, and in its statement on Tuesday, the ministry suggested more could follow. The ministry said its countermeasures aim to maintain normal trade order and are legitimate, while the actions taken by the United States are coercive in nature. "The imposition by the United States of so-called 'reciprocal tariffs' on China is completely groundless and a typical act of unilateral bullying," the ministry said.
"The countermeasures taken by China are intended to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests, and to uphold normal international trade order. They are entirely legitimate," it added.
