Milan, 23 April (LaPresse) – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, to ‘express his deepest condolences on behalf of the United States for the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis’. This was reported by the US State Department in a statement. Rubio ‘expressed his deepest condolences to the Vatican and the global Catholic community.’ Secretary Rubio and Cardinal Parolin ‘reaffirmed the strong partnership between the United States and the Holy See.’ Rubio also ‘offered solidarity during this time of mourning and transition for the Vatican and the Catholic Church.’
