Milan, May 3 (LaPresse/AP) – United Nations officials have put forward proposals for a major consolidation of UN operations and other sweeping reforms aimed at eliminating inefficiencies, redundancies, and budget overruns. This is according to an internal memo obtained by the Associated Press. The proposals—still in early discussion stages and far from certain to be adopted—would mark one of the largest reforms in UN history. The organization is already strained by funding cuts imposed by its main donor, the United States, under President Donald Trump. The document, labeled “strictly confidential,” is part of a reform initiative known as UN80, launched in March by Secretary-General António Guterres. “The memo is a preliminary result of an initiative to gather ideas and reflections from senior officials on how to realize the Secretary-General’s vision,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
