Beijing, May 5 (LaPresse) – At least 9 people are dead and 20 missing after a storm swept away four boats on the Wu River in China. According to Chinese television CCTV, two of the capsized vessels were carrying about 40 people each and were not overloaded. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for “all-out efforts” to find the missing and care for the injured, Xinhua reported on Sunday. Xi's administration has pushed to reduce fatalities in China’s transportation sector, but overloading, poor vehicle maintenance, and a lack of safety equipment have undermined these efforts, especially during major holidays.
