Frankfurt (Germany), May 8 (LaPresse) – “The war against Ukraine is not simply a continuation of the fight against fascism. Putin’s war of aggression, his campaign against a free and democratic country, has nothing in common with the struggle against Nazi tyranny during the Second World War,” said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in his speech to the Bundestag on the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. “This historical lie is nothing more than a disguise for imperial madness, grave injustice, and serious crimes. Especially on May 8, we stand with Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, democracy, and sovereignty. Leaving Ukraine defenseless would mean abandoning the lesson of May 8,” Steinmeier stated, while also acknowledging the contribution of the Russian Army in liberating Auschwitz. “But it is precisely for this reason that we firmly oppose the Kremlin’s current historical falsehoods,” the Federal President added.
