Rome, 11 May (LaPresse) – The US special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has reportedly informed mediators that Washington would accept Hamas' participation in the government of the Gaza Strip after the end of the war, on condition that it abandons military action. This was reported by the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, citing informed sources. Witkoff, through mediators, reportedly presented Hamas with a plan for a partial agreement that would begin with the release of 10 Israeli prisoners according to previous exchange criteria, in exchange for a cessation of hostilities for up to 70 days, during which the final agreement would be negotiated. The sources explained that the American offer differs from the Israeli one, which provided for a ceasefire period of only 45 days in the partial agreement.
