Deir al-Balah (Gaza Strip), 14 May (LaPresse/AP) – The death toll from Israeli air strikes on northern and southern Gaza has risen to at least 70, including nearly two dozen children. According to hospitals and the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 50 people, including 22 children, were killed in raids around Jabaliya, in the north of the Strip. The attacks came after Hamas released an Israeli-American hostage on Monday, a gesture some interpreted as a possible step towards a ceasefire, while US President Donald Trump is in the Middle East on a multi-day visit to Gulf countries. The Israeli army declined to comment on the attacks. On Tuesday evening, it warned residents of Jabaliya to evacuate the area, citing the presence of military infrastructure in the area, including rocket launchers. In Jabaliya, rescuers broke through collapsed concrete slabs with hand tools, illuminated by mobile phone lights, to recover the bodies of children.
