Brussels, May 14 (LaPresse) – The EU Court has annulled the European Commission’s decision to deny a New York Times journalist access to text messages exchanged between President Ursula von der Leyen and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla. Based on the regulation on public access to documents, the EU Court explains, Matina Stevis, a journalist working for The New York Times, requested access to all SMS messages exchanged between President Ursula von der Leyen and Albert Bourla between January 1, 2021, and May 11, 2022.The Commission rejected the request, claiming it did not possess the documents in question. Stevis and the New York Times appealed to the EU General Court to annul the Commission’s decision. In its ruling, the Court sided with the plaintiffs and annulled the Commission’s decision. "The Commission will now carefully review the Court’s decision and determine the next steps. To that end, it will issue a new decision with a more detailed explanation," stated the European Commission in response to the ruling.
