Kathmandu (Nepal), May 18 (LaPresse/AP) – British mountain guide Kenton Cool summited Mount Everest for the 19th time today, breaking his own record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak by a non-Sherpa climber.
Cool, 51, originally from southwest England, reached the 8,849-meter summit along with other climbers and was reported to be in good condition during the descent.
He first climbed Everest in 2004 and has returned almost every year since.
The all-time record for Everest ascents is 30, held by Nepali Sherpa guide Kami Rita, who is currently on the mountain and expected to attempt another summit in the coming days.
