Milan, 19 May (LaPresse) – In Poland, where the counting of ballots from yesterday's presidential elections is nearing completion, a second exit poll released overnight confirms what was anticipated last night when the polls closed: a second round will be necessary. The runoff election on 1 June will be between the mayor of Warsaw, the liberal Rafal Trzaskowski, and the historian Karol Nawrocki, a newcomer to the political arena, who has received the support of the conservative Law and Justice party. According to the second exit poll, conducted by Ipsos, Trzaskowski stood at 31.2% and Nawrocki at 29.7%, suggesting that the runoff could be a close race. Trzaskowski is an ally of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is pro-EU.
