Brussels, 20 May (LaPresse) – "I am really pleased that President Trump is taking this leadership role. He has basically unblocked the situation from day one, when he took office in January, and I really want to commend him for that. And I don't want to comment on every development every day, but it is clear that the American administration is very involved, in close coordination with European colleagues and, of course, with Ukraine. And I think that's very positive.‘ This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte upon his arrival at the Foreign Affairs and Defence Council, responding to a question about yesterday's Trump-Putin phone call. ’I think it's positive that President Trump has started to open channels of communication with the Russian president as well. And of course, we hope for results as soon as possible, but in real life, that's not always possible because this is a complex conflict. So, I repeat, I think what the Americans are doing is very important. It is essential that they consult with the Europeans, with Ukraine, and we must proceed step by step. And let's see what happens this week and next."
