Milan, May 28 (LaPresse) – Former French surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape and sexual violence against 299 patients. In March, Le Scouarnec admitted to all charges against him, including 111 rapes and 188 sexual assaults committed between 1989 and 2014. Of these 299 victims, 256 were under 15 years old at the time of the crimes. During his final statement on Monday before the Morbihan criminal court, the former surgeon did not ask for “any clemency,” stating he had “become aware of the immense pain these crimes caused to them (the victims) and their loved ones.” This was reported by the French broadcaster Bfmtv. “Just grant me the right to improve and to embrace that part of humanity that I was missing,” he added.
