Rome, 29 May (LaPresse) – Lawyers for the US Department of Justice have notified a federal judge that the Department of Homeland Security has sent Harvard a “Notice of Intent to Withdraw” from the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme. The five-page document, according to CNN, cites several reasons why the government is taking the initiative to deprive the university of the opportunity to host foreign students and has given the university 30 days to respond with sworn statements or other evidence “to refute the alleged grounds for withdrawal”. The new notice cites the same alleged issues that the administration has leveraged in its recent warnings, including that Harvard has failed to comply with reporting requirements for foreign students and that it does not maintain an environment “free from violence and anti-Semitism”.
