Paris (France), June 1 (LaPresse) – The number of arrests in Paris due to disturbances during the Champions League final won by Paris Saint-Germain against Inter has risen to at least 294. PSG fans last night launched rockets and fireworks, while cars honked their horns and the Eiffel Tower lit up at night as the club celebrated its first Champions League title after defeating Inter 5-0. There were a couple of tense moments and dozens of arrests during the match, which was played in Munich but followed throughout Paris, including inside PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium, which broadcast the game on a big screen. Outside the stadium, during the first half, a brief clash occurred between PSG fans launching rockets and riot police, who used tear gas to disperse them. At the top of the Champs-Élysées, a water cannon was used to protect Place de l'Étoile, near the Arc de Triomphe. Police said a large crowd, not watching the match, tried to break through a barrier to confront law enforcement. By 2 a.m., 294 arrests had been made, including 30 people who stormed a shoe store on the Champs-Élysées. Two cars were set on fire near Parc des Princes, police added.
