Italy is an important partner for us and must play its full role alongside its European partners, including France; that is why President Macron will travel to Rome.’ This was reported by sources at the Élysée Palace ahead of tomorrow's meeting between President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome. The two leaders "spoke last week, immediately after a conversation between several European leaders and President Trump. The President of the Republic has sufficient respect for Italy and for the role played by Ms Meloni to have taken the initiative to invite her to Rome,‘ the source reiterated. ’As for the question of formats, the visit to Kiev,‘ which Meloni did not attend, ’was an initiative by Chancellor Merz after his rise to power, and it was an excellent initiative. ‘Our conviction is that, among Europeans, the question of formats should be handled according to the principle of the best possible impact given the circumstances. We are, by definition, very close in what we do. And so the President of the Republic visited Kiev at the invitation of the German Chancellor in this format,’ the source explained.
