New York (USA), June 11 (LaPresse) – Former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been convicted on one of the main charges in his new sexual crimes trial, acquitted on another, and the jury has not yet reached a verdict on a third charge. Weinstein’s initial conviction five years ago marked the dramatic fall of one of Hollywood’s most powerful men during a pivotal moment for the #MeToo movement. However, that conviction was overturned last year, and the case was retried in the same Manhattan court. This time, a predominantly female jury found the former studio head guilty of forcing someone to perform a sexual act in 2006. He was acquitted on another charge of criminal sexual acts, also from 2006, and the jury is still deliberating over an allegation of raping another woman in 2013. The judge has instructed jurors to continue deliberations on Thursday before dismissing them for the day. Under New York law, third-degree rape carries a lighter sentence than first-degree criminal sexual acts. Weinstein, 73, denies having sexually assaulted or raped anyone.
