Washington (USA), 13 June (LaPresse) – A federal judge has ruled that President Donald Trump illegally deployed thousands of members of the California National Guard and ordered him to return control of the troops to the state. District Judge Charles Breyer's ruling is a victory for Governor Gavin Newsom, who earlier this week sued Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth over the order to deploy the National Guard following ongoing protests in Los Angeles. The president's actions ‘were unlawful, exceeding the limits of his statutory authority and violating the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. He must therefore immediately return control of the California National Guard to the governor of the State of California,’ the judge wrote in his 36-page ruling. Breyer will suspend his ruling until Friday at noon. The Justice Department has filed an appeal.
