Ahmedabad (India), 14 June (LaPresse/AP) – Search and rescue teams continued to comb the site of one of India's worst air disasters for a third day after an Air India flight crashed and killed at least 270 people in the state of Gujarat, authorities said. The Boeing 787 bound for London crashed into a medical college hostel in a residential area of the northwestern city of Ahmedabad minutes after takeoff on Thursday, killing 241 people on board and at least 29 on the ground. One passenger survived. Rescue teams, who worked through Friday night, found at least 25 more bodies in the wreckage, authorities said. Dr. Dhaval Gameti of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital told the Associated Press that the facility had received 270 bodies, adding that the sole surviving passenger was still under observation for some of his injuries. ‘He is doing very well and will be ready to be discharged shortly,’ Gameti said. Hundreds of relatives of the accident victims provided DNA samples at the hospital. Most of the bodies were charred or mutilated, making them unrecognisable.
