Rome, 14 June (LaPresse) – "The European position is to avoid escalation, while maintaining that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and this is what I will say today in Parliament. Italy's position is one of peace, while maintaining that the security and existence of the State of Israel cannot be jeopardised by nuclear weapons." This was the statement made by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in an interview with Tg1 on the situation in the Middle East. “As regards Iran's nuclear programme, we have the report from the United Nations Agency according to which Iran has violated the rules and crossed the red line with regard to the construction of nuclear weapons,” he added. 'Therefore, Israel's observations are entirely based on an independent report from the UN agency. We must avoid military escalation and nuclear escalation at all costs, and to do so we are in constant contact with our European partners. We support the action of Oman, which is the country working to mediate between Iran and the United States,‘ continued the head of the Foreign Ministry, concluding: ’While it is necessary to continue dialogue, we must tell Iran that it cannot build a nuclear weapon."
