Turin, 17 June (LaPresse) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney today on the sidelines of the G7 summit. ‘I informed him of Russia's night-time attack against our people, civilian infrastructure and residential buildings, which involved 440 Iranian Shahed drones and 32 missiles, including ballistic missiles,’ Zelensky wrote on X. ‘We discussed steps to continue diplomatic work with partners within NATO, the G7 and the Coalition of the Willing; strengthening Ukraine's air defence; and deepening military cooperation, including joint arms production projects and investments in the Ukrainian defence industry,’ he explained. ‘I am grateful,’ he added, ‘for the introduction of new sanctions against Russia's shadow fleet, several Russian individuals and more than 40 companies in Russia and other countries that are helping Russia circumvent sanctions.’ ‘I especially thank Canada for its new military assistance to Ukraine — drones, helicopters and ammunition worth more than $2 billion — and for the next tranche of more than $2 billion financed from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets,’ he concluded.
