The goal is clear: to amplify the offensive against civil society, strip it of funding, and prevent it from criticizing governments. States without an independent civil society have a name: authoritarian regimes,” said Manon Aubry, co-chair of The Left group.
“In the meantime, corporations, lobbies, and third countries at the center of recent corruption scandals will be free to continue lobbying with millions of euros. Naturally, these are the same groups that reject an independent ethics authority to monitor lobbying and oversee the funds distributed to MEPs. Transparency—only when it suits their interests. Intolerable!” she wrote on X.
