New York, June 25 (LaPresse) – The French ambassador to the United Nations has urged Iran to resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and to allow UN nuclear inspectors access to its nuclear facilities as soon as possible to verify that its uranium stocks have not been moved. Jérôme Bonnafont also called on Tehran to resume negotiations for "a solid, verifiable, and lasting diplomatic solution" that addresses international concerns about its pursuit of nuclear weapons. He spoke at a Security Council meeting on the resolution approving the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six major powers aimed at curbing its nuclear program, which imposed extensive sanctions on the Islamic Republic. The latest sanctions related to Iran’s nuclear activities and transfers expire on October 18. Bonnafont stated that France and its European partners, Britain and Germany, who remain part of the nuclear deal — from which President Trump withdrew the United States in 2018 — are ready to use the 2015 resolution provision to "restore" UN sanctions "if such an agreement is not reached by summer." He said any deal with Iran must consider nuclear non-proliferation, regional stability, and European security interests.
