Moscow (Russia), July 1 (LaPresse) – Former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on corruption charges. Ivanov, 49, was appointed deputy minister in 2016 and was responsible for overseeing military construction projects, property management, housing, and medical support for service members.
He was widely known in Moscow for his lavish lifestyle, which sparked controversy—especially as fighting in Ukraine exposed major deficiencies in Russia’s military logistics and organization, contributing to battlefield setbacks.
Ivanov is the most high-profile figure so far in a broad investigation into alleged corruption in the military sector, which has implicated several senior officials close to former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Shoigu, a longtime official with personal ties to President Vladimir Putin, survived the recent purges of his inner circle and has been appointed Secretary of Russia’s Security Council.
