Brussels, 10 July (LaPresse) – The European Parliament has rejected the motion of no confidence against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: out of 553 voters, 175 voted in favour, 360 against and 18 abstained. Two-thirds of the votes cast were required for its approval. The motion was tabled by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea (AUR/ECR) and signed by 76 right-wing MEPs. The majority forces reiterated their support for the Commission President, with the EPP standing united, while the Socialists and Liberals expressed criticism and called for a review of the State of the Union address in September and then in the approval of the multiannual budget.
