Milan, 11 July (LaPresse) – Narges Mohammadi, winner of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, has reported receiving death threats from the Iranian authorities. This was reported by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. In an urgent phone call with Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Mohammadi said she had received warnings both through her lawyers and through indirect channels. The clear message, in her own words, is that ‘I have been threatened directly and indirectly with “physical elimination” by agents of the regime.’ “The Norwegian Nobel Committee is deeply concerned about the threats against Narges Mohammadi and, more generally, against all Iranian citizens with a critical voice, and calls on the authorities to safeguard not only their lives but also their freedom of expression,” said Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
