Rome, 11 July (LaPresse) – An Israeli army officer has died in an apparent accident in the southern Gaza Strip, the IDF has announced. The victim is Captain Reei Biran, 21, a squad commander in the Golani Brigade's reconnaissance unit in Shorashim. According to initial reports from the IDF, the accident occurred during an ongoing offensive in Khan Younis. During the operation, troops worked to mine several buildings suspected of being used by Hamas for terrorist activities in order to demolish them. About two hours after the buildings were mined, an explosion occurred and Biran was hit, possibly by shrapnel or debris.
