Milan, 14 July (LaPresse) – ‘I held a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko.’ This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a post on social media. ‘I proposed that Yuliia Svyrydenko lead the Ukrainian government and significantly renew its work,’ he added, ‘I look forward to the presentation of the new government's action plan in the near future.’ If confirmed, Svyrydenko would replace current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, who has been in office since 2020. Zelensky explained that the move is part of a ‘transformation of executive power.’ ‘We must quickly implement everything that can strengthen the resilience of our state and society,’ Zelensky said. Svyridenko currently also serves as Minister of Economy. Yulia Svyrydenko is originally from Chernihiv. She was born on 25 December 1985. In 2008, she graduated with honours from the National University of Trade and Economics in Kiev. In 2019, Svyrydenko joined the Ministry of Economy as deputy minister and in 2020 was appointed first deputy minister. She was responsible for labour, employment, industry and pricing policies. In December 2020, she moved to the Office of the President, where she took up the position of Deputy Head, dealing with economic issues and interaction with investors. At the same time, she chaired the Business Promotion Council created by President Volodymyr Zelensky. On 4 November 2021, she was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.
