Rome, 15 July (LaPresse) – ‘President Trump was simply asking a question, not encouraging further killings. He is working tirelessly to stop the killings and end this war.’ This was stated to CNN by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, emphasising that Trump's words reported by the Financial Times, according to which he encouraged Ukraine to intensify attacks deep into Russian territory, were taken out of context. During a phone call on 4 July between the two leaders, Trump reportedly asked, ‘Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? Can you hit St Petersburg too?’ Zelensky reportedly replied, ‘Absolutely. We can do that if you give us the weapons.’
