Washington, July 16 (LaPresse) – Jerome Powell "is always late, he has always been late, he should have cut interest rates a long time ago, Europe has cut rates ten times in a short period," and "I think he is doing a terrible job, costing us a lot of money, he’s a terrible Fed chair," but his firing is "highly unlikely, unless he has to leave for fraud." These remarks were made by U.S. President Donald Trump in response to journalists’ questions in the Oval Office during a meeting with Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
"I just want a good job, I just want to see low interest rates, our country deserves that," Trump said. "It’s not a difficult job, to be honest, as long as you’re smart," he continued, adding that "it could be one of the easiest jobs I’ve ever seen." The tycoon also denied having already drafted a letter to fire Powell.
