Kiev, July 17 (LaPresse) – Yuliia Svyrydenko, formerly Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, has been appointed as the country’s new Prime Minister, replacing Denys Shmyhal. This marks the first leadership change in the Ukrainian government since the war began in 2022. Her nomination was approved by Parliament with 262 votes in favor, 22 against, and 26 abstentions. Svyrydenko played a key role in negotiating the recent minerals agreement with the United States. The reshuffle, initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky, aims to revitalize the nation amid ongoing war fatigue and to boost domestic arms production. Shmyhal is expected to lead the Ministry of Defense. Despite the change, many in Ukraine see this reshuffle as a continuation of existing leadership trusted during the four-year-long war.
