Seoul (South Korea), 18 July (LaPresse/AP) – North Korea has announced that it will ban foreign tourists from entering the recently opened mega seaside resort, the eastern coastal complex of Wonsan-Kalma, a move that clouds the prospects for the site. The announcement was made on the DPR Korea Tour website, run by the North Korean tourism authorities. The resort ‘will temporarily not accept foreign tourists,’ they said, without giving further details on the reason for the ban or how long it would last. North Korea says the complex can accommodate nearly 20,000 people. It opened to domestic tourists on 1 July, before welcoming a small group of Russian tourists last week. Observers had expected North Korea to open the resort to Chinese tourists, while blocking most other international tourists.
