Brussels, 18 July (LaPresse) – "Commissioner Sefcovic, who spent two days in Washington, returned this morning to take stock of the situation of our Member States at the fundamental level this afternoon. During his two days in Washington, the Commissioner held intensive negotiations with Secretary of Commerce Lutnick and US Trade Representative Greer. He also met with the Director of the National Economic Council. This was another opportunity to seek a negotiated solution, demonstrating our constructive and good-faith engagement with the US administration." This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill in his midday briefing with the press. ‘As we have said in the past, our transatlantic partnership deserves a negotiated solution that is meaningful for both sides,’ he explained. "This means, on the one hand, addressing the US's main objective of rebalancing our mutual trade to a certain extent, while safeguarding the EU's economic interests. In other words, the final outcome must be beneficial to businesses on both sides of the Atlantic, and this is the goal that the Commission continues to pursue," he concluded.
