Milan, 20 July (LaPresse) – The death toll from violence in the Syrian province of Sweida since clashes broke out on 13 July has risen to 1,220, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). ‘Among the victims, 194 cases of summary executions and killings for sectarian reasons’ by the ‘Ministries of Defence and the Interior’ have been documented, including 28 women, eight children and one elderly person, the observatory added. The figures report the killing of 427 Druze militants and 104 civilians, ‘including 6 children and 16 women.’ Also killed were 354 members of the Syrian security forces, 21 Sunni Bedouins, including 3 civilians ‘summarily executed by Druze militants,’ and a Lebanese militant. In addition, “15 members of the defence and interior ministries were killed in Israeli air strikes”.
