Milan, 23 July (LaPresse) – Over 100 NGOs – including Save the Children, Amnesty International, ActionAid International and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) – have signed an appeal warning that hunger is spreading in Gaza and calling for humanitarian aid to be allowed in. “As mass starvation spreads in Gaza, over 100 NGOs launch urgent appeal to allow life-saving aid into the Strip”, reads the title of the appeal, which stresses that ‘as the Israeli government's siege starves the people of Gaza, humanitarian workers are now joining the same ranks to receive food, risking their lives just to feed their families.’ ‘With supplies now completely exhausted, humanitarian organisations are witnessing the deterioration of their colleagues and partners before their very eyes,’ it reads. The more than 100 NGOs then make detailed demands: "It is time to act decisively: call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire; lift all bureaucratic and administrative restrictions; open all border crossings; guarantee access for all throughout Gaza; reject military-controlled distribution models; restore a principled, UN-led humanitarian response; and continue to fund impartial, principled humanitarian organisations. States must take concrete steps to end the siege, such as halting the transfer of arms and ammunition."
