Beirut (Lebanon), 25 July (LaPresse/AP) – Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, 74, a pro-Palestinian Lebanese communist militant, has arrived in Lebanon after being released from prison in France after more than 40 years. Abdallah was serving a life sentence for complicity in the 1982 murders of two diplomats, one American and one Israeli, in Paris. The Paris Court of Appeal ruled last week that Abdallah could be released on condition that he leave the country and never return. In 1987, Abdallah was sentenced to life imprisonment for complicity in the murder of US Army Lieutenant Colonel Charles Ray, stationed in Paris as a military attaché, and Israeli diplomat Yacov Barsimantov. He became eligible for parole in 1999, but numerous requests since then had been rejected.
