Rome, Aug 2 (LaPresse) – "I have just returned from a five-day mission in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The signs of deep suffering and hunger were visible on the faces of families and children. Since the beginning of the war, over 18,000 children have been killed in Gaza. This is an average of 28 children per day, equivalent to a whole classroom, who are no longer with us. The children have lost their loved ones, they are hungry, scared, and traumatized." This was stated in a note by Ted Chaiban, UNICEF Deputy Director General.
"Gaza is now seriously at risk of famine. This is a situation that has worsened, but now we have two indicators that have crossed the famine threshold. One in three people in Gaza go days without food, and the malnutrition indicator has exceeded the famine threshold, with acute malnutrition now surpassing 16.5% [in Gaza City]. Today, over 320,000 young children are at risk of acute malnutrition," he added.
